I have allways loved clay. My fondest memories of childhood are of making mud pies and mud ball "factories" where I grew on Mercer Island, WA. Later, I studied ceramic art at Pratt Institute , N.Y.C.; Evergreen State College, WA.; Hui Noeau, Maui; and finished B. S. at Alabama State University in 2001. I enjoy exploring for indigenous local clays along rivers and roadsides in Alabama and Florida. I make my own clay employing a method originated by indegenous indians of this area. My clay is made by mixing in plant materials and sand from the ocean or from the local creek bed near my studio in Autauga County, Alabama. My appreciation for nature and the earth is apparant in my work as I use leaves, shells, moss, and bark to decorate my pieces. I find discarded broken glass to melt into the glaze creating the crackled glass effect. I hope my art will inspire you to connect with your local natural environment.
